Binomial name
Pteropus vampyrus

The large flying fox (Pteropus vampyrus), also known as the greater flying fox, Malayan flying fox, Malaysian flying fox, large fruit bat, kalang or kalong, is a southeast species of megabat in the family Pteropodidae. Like the other members of the genus Pteropus, or the Old World fruit bats, it usually eats fruits, nectar or flowers. It is noted for being one of the largest bats. And it also has the ability to Echoloate (determination of the position of an object by measuring the time taken for an echo to return from it and its direction)

The large flying fox is among the largest species of bat. Its weigh is about 0.65–1.1 kg and has a wingspan of up to 1.5 m. Its head-body length is 27–32 centimetres. The large flying fox's wings are short and somewhat rounded at the tips. This allows them to fly slowly, but with great maneuverability. This also allows them to fly without making anysound.

LIFE CYCLE OF FLYING FOX

Like the other bats, flying foxes breed their baby by childbirth. Their baby are called "pups". They are born live after 50-60 days in their mother's body. When the pup is born, the mother hangs upright (That's upside down for them) and catches and cradles the pup in a basket she makes with her wings.
Bat pups are taken care of a "nursery" when the mother bat is hunting. They hang from the ceiling of the cave or tree. At night they go to sleep hanging onto their mother.
Baby bats use their teeth and claws to hold onto their mother while she flies and roosts. If the pup lets go, he or she will fall and could die. The pup will start to fly at 2-3 months of age.
Around the age of one year, the large flying fox is an adult

UNIQUE THINGS

The large flying foxes have some features which make them unique. First, they have an ability to Echolocate. So they can fly with eyes closed and use a sonar system to measure the position of foods or to measure the direction. And the last thing is, they can fly without making anysound because their wings are made from a very thin and smooth membrane.
